    Case Study

    Outsource of Core IT for Bishop Vesey’s Grammar School

    Bishop Vesey’s Grammar School, a provider of outstanding education in Birmingham and the Midlands, has been working with Riverlite to outsource mission critical elements of it’s IT service and support.

    The school, which has around 1,150 students and 130 staff, had its fingers badly burnt with previous IT suppliers, and has started to learn how to trust and rely on an IT supplier once more since engaging with Riverlite.

    Dee Baglee, Network Manager at Bishop Vesey’s stated: “Our previous IT supplier did not deliver, despite promising a lot of good things. We had two bad experiences with suppliers who had a high turnover of staff and skills. Luckily a recommendation was made by another educational establishment for whom Riverlite were also providing core IT services.

    After an initial discovery phase, it was found that Bishop Vesey’s had a number of urgent IT issues to address. A new building had failed to be properly connected to the existing ICT network. Additionally, SCCM, Microsoft’s desktop management solution, had been poorly implemented and rendered “unusable”.

    The first task for the Riverlite Professional Services team was to redesign and implement the Microsoft SCCM configuration. This project enabled the automation of the schools manual processes around the management and deployment of applications as well as the remote patching and updating of IT systems.

    Bishop Vesey’s then tasked Riverlite with the remediation and overhaul of their network infrastructure. The Professional Services team addressed the existing issues such as, poor wireless coverage and incomplete connectivity with the implementation of a complete Cisco Meraki network. This project was completed within normal working hours, with no downtime, saving the school significant cost and disruption.

    We need high-end support and cannot afford to wait. We only get one chance with a lesson, if systems are down, that lesson cannot happen, the children don’t get another chance. Having everything working is mission critical.

    As part of the network project, Riverlite implemented a BYOD and MDM solution to manage and secure mobile devices. In this way Bishop Vesey’s can enable controlled access to IT systems, whilst providing comprehensive security protection for both staff and students regardless of the devices or systems they are using.

    Graham Swindells, Finance Director explained, “Riverlite have resolved our issues around the management of our devices. SCCM had been previously unusable and the new mobile device management (MDM) solution means Riverlite are able to wipe or lock down a device remotely should it be lost or stolen.” Swindells went on to say “We have been so pleased with the engagement that we have since asked Riverlite to provide us with contracted managed support services.”

    Riverlite Ensure, a 24/7 monitoring and management service was implemented to provide remote monitoring of on-site systems and infrastructure providing proactive notifications in the event of any IT issues.

    Riverlite Assist, a managed support desk was added to the core Riverlite services delivered to Bishop Vesey’s to provide third-line support as a safety net for the school’s technical team and the escalation of complex IT issues.
