    Hybrid Cloud Solution & 24×7 support for ERF

    ERF Electrical Wholesalers Ltd are one of the UK’s largest independent electrical wholesalers and retailers supplying and servicing commercial and domestic customers UK wide.

    With expansion plans including new locations across the UK as well as a complete renovation to the head office, ERF realised their IT strategy would need to be robust and scalable enough for future growth.

    “We had experienced some issues with our previous IT supplier who was not as proactive as they should have been, in fact, I was noticing issues arising before they did,” explained Vicki Partridge, Head of IT at ERF. “The lack of proactivity, our software licensing needing to be renewed and an ageing storage infrastructure, meant our business was starting to suffer. We wanted a partner to work alongside us to maximise the investments already made in IT and enable us to scale to support our growth plans”.

    Riverlite initiated a due diligence process beginning with an IT assessment and software licencing review, before submitting a proposal to ERF for an end to end IT strategy. “Riverlite demonstrated to us that they understood our business, stated Partridge, they talked to us in plain English and gave us honest feedback.”

    The immediate requirement to rectify the storage issues. Riverlite’s professional services team designed and implemented a new on-premise IT facility utilising both new and existing equipment where feasible. Riverlite then replicated all ERF’s business data to their private cloud platform vCloud providing DR and resiliency to the business via this innovative hybrid solution.

    To address the lack of proactivity previously experienced ERF also looked to Riverlite to take on responsibility for the day to day management and monitoring of its IT infrastructure. Riverlite Ensure was implemented, providing proactive monitoring and management, essential system patching, security updates and remote fault resolution.

    “We wanted 24×7 support and a proactive IT partner that could spot and deal with any issues early on,” explained Partridge, “we hold quarterly review meetings in which I get a report of all the problems I had but didn’t even know about! Riverlite Ensure keeps everything running at ERF, I no longer have to worry about anything to do with the server room and can totally focus on our business, everything is seamlessly taken care of.”

    To complement ERF’s own IT team, Riverlite Assist, a managed support desk service, was implemented to deliver third line support. ERF provide their own first and second line support to their IT users, but when more complex issues arise they are escalated to Riverlite’s support desk for resolution.
